Ramadanman - Bass Drums (Future Bass Exclusive) by Soul Jazz Records
From the same label that meticulously handpicked the best compilations in dubstep - for the uninitiated, that’ll be Steppa’s Delight and Box of Dub - comes Future Bass. This new selection acts with essentially the same modus operandi as the aforementioned, albeit this time pulling for the mini-scenes falling thick and fast from the dubstep family tree. Future Bass is a pretty loaded title, and it wouldn’t be quite right for it to exist without the input of 2010’s reigning champ of boundary-blurring club nuttiness: step up Ramadanman. Drawing on the same footwork themed inspiration as recent dancefloor dominator Work Them, Bass Drums pulls out a wickedly stripped down riddim that acts as bridge between the cavernous half step of dubstep and the hip hop half time of juke, all the whilst hanging around in sleazy sub 130 bpm territory. If Ramadanman’s drum work doesn’t get you grinning yet, I’m sure that slinky bass drop will. Baffling business from a producer who really and truly answers to no-one. This one joins tracks by Untold, Mala, Distal and more when Future Bass drops on September 27th.
