VIDEO PREMIERE // AUTRE NE VEUT “WAKE UP”

We’ve made no secret of our love for Olde English Spelling Bee’s frazzled prince of soul Autre Ne Veut, and those feelings have only multiplied with the release of his self titled LP. Bringing the hysteria implicit in the best stylings of 80s electro pop to the forefront of his warped, over-emotional visions, ANV has drawn attention to a ghost in the machine far different from the usual hypnagogic suspects. Rather than a dusty, nostalgic re-run of pleasures past, the ANV modus operandi is to highlight and exaggerate a thread that has run through pop music immemorial almost unnoticed. There are many more words to be spent on that record yet, but for now Always Everything is proud to host the video premiere of Autre Ne Veut’s newest transmission, Wake Up.

Tapping into the emotional treasure trove of freakish Poser art, ANV’s emphatic pleas and boogie bass soundtrack CG purgatory, the tears of uncanny valley growing into sensuous tentacles. Even as one of the more understated moments of the album, Wake Up is a buzzing bundle of neurosis, with ANV utilising his trademark discordant harmonies to twist the empty platitudes of the 80s into genuinely affecting desperation.
