"IF YOU WANT A VISION OF THE FUTURE, IMAGINE CRAP 808 SAMPLES STAMPING ON A HUMAN FACE- FOREVER"

Lucky Bristol! Two, yes, TWO Sun Araw shows are taking place this week thanks to the two realest musical outposts in the city, the Arnolfini and Qu Junktions. For the uninitiated, Sun Araw is the solo project of Cameron Stallones, founder of stoner slow jammers Magic Lantern. Think sprawling, semi-improvisional psychedelic swamp music and you might be half way there. Evocative at once of burnt-out dub futurism, sci fi cop drama and drug addled jam bands, Sun Araw has come to be flagbearer for a whole subset of the blazed US underground. This year’s On Patrol (courtesy of the ever awesome Not Not Fun) and follow up EP Off Duty (Woodsist) take the project to new heights, refracting Stallones’ kaleidoscopic gloop across time, acid breakdowns colliding with 2099 shamanism.

The first of the week’s shows comes tonight (Tuesday 16th) at The Arnolfini, wherein Stallones will be providing an alternate soundtracking to Felini’s masterful adaptation of Satyricon. The Arnolfini’s programmers outdo themselves again, pairing Sun Araw’s time displaced sound with what’s essentially a science fiction take on Ancient Rome. More info on that one here.
Following that, this Friday 19th sees Qu Junktions’ How Come tour touch base at The Croft, Sun Araw being joined with Bristol denizens Zun Zun Egui and Andrew Hung of celestial trailblazers Fuck Buttons. Head here for more details. Unmissable stuff.
Those outside of Bristol would do well to catch one of the other dates of the How Come tour, London in particular seeing the addition of the fantastic Hype Williams. Wed 17th, London, Camp // Thur 18th, Brighton, Hectors House // Fri 19th, Bristol, The Croft // Sat 20th, Nottingham, The Arts Organisation // Sun 21st, Manchester, Islington Mill // Mon 22nd, Glasgow, Arts School // Sun 23rd, Leeds, Brudenell Social Club.
