BRISTOL // FRIDAY NIGHT FUN

Repping for Always Everything tonight, Rory “Eighteen” Gibbs is going to be spinning records in support of Eglo Records boss and Rinse FM DJ Alexander Nut at Dojo. Hosted by the ever excellent Kelly Twins, UFO covers niches bizarrely unrepresented in Bristol: cosmic boogie, tweeked out hip hop jams and everything even tangentially related. Tonight sees one of their best headliners in a a while, with Nut’s Eglo Records slowly but surely building one of the UK’s strongest posses.

A bit further into town, Robin Carolan launches the Bristol arm of his RnB party So Bones at Day & Night. Having usurped the shit Salem-biting ephemera and redefined “Witch House” for the better with Tri Angle Records, as well as heading up the excellent 20 Jazz Funk Greats blog, So Bones is another tendril snaking out of Carolan’s musical empire, with regular nights in London, New York and Bristol incoming. Heading up proceedings is Julio Bashmore and Hyetal’s intensely sexual Velour project, making their Bristol debut after a wicked Night Slugs 12”. Expect Ciara, Swizz Beats, Bangladesh, Elektrik Red, Aaliyah, Nicki Minaj and all that good stuff.
