BRISTOL // HONEST JON’S TAKEOVER

More great stuff happening in Bristol this weekend - Berlin pioneer Moritz Von Oswald is touching down for two dates as part of Honest Jons’ mini-takeover.

The first event, on Friday, has Von Oswald booked to play a rare 45s session alongside longtime vocal collaborator Paul St. Hilaire/Tikiman (the mercurial, steady voice behind Rhythm & Sound’s ocean deep ‘Jah Rule’, who’s also made recent appearances on dubbed-out techno & house records from the likes of Deadbeat and SIdeshow). It’s happening in the absolutely tiny surrounds of Take 5 Cafe, and also features Mark Ainley and Trilogy Tapes founder Will Bankhead. If you’re in Bristol and don’t make it along to this, I’m not sure if there’s much left to say, to be honest - it’s a rare chance to catch a legend of electronic music in such a small setting.

The second, on Saturday, places his full band - The Moritz Von Oswald Trio - alongside ramshackle London samplescaper Actress and the occult-referencing, witchy darkness of Demdike Stare. It’s set to be another great gig - when they’re on good form the Trio are reputed to be among the finest live acts around, and both Actress and Demdike put out some of last year’s finest records in Splazsh and the Tryptych series of 12”s.

I interviewed Miles from Demdike Stare for The Quietus recently - it’s due to be published this week, so I’ll link when it’s gone up.

You can grab tickets from the Arnolfini or the Honest Jon’s website for these two shows.
