In a web-world full of transient run off, Sonic Router is a shining example of the potential that can be pulled from a humble blogspot. A far cry from the interlopery e-mass’ 128kbps “filth” obsession, under Oli Marlow’s steady hand Sonic Router has spent the last 18 months breaking, documenting and archiving some of the most interesting developments in UK dance music. Hot on the pulse, Sonic Router pulled up exclusive mixes from the likes of Untold, Shortstuff and Brackles long before the wider world was aware of their brilliance, as well as a whole host of other great sets. 49 in total, to be exact. And number 50 just dropped, showcasing the exquisite talents of one Blawan, Hessle Audio’s new golden boy. True to form, there seems to be big things a brewin’ with this man, dropping a debut 12” so mighty the internet was convinced it had to be Ben UFO’s production pseudonym. More words on that record later this week, for now, enjoy an intense showcase living up to the excellent ultra rhythmic niche his label has carved for itself quite admirably. UKG don Wookie is pulled for, as well as a smattering of hot hot hot Hessle tracks- including new Untold, Pangaea’s contribution to the mighty looking Commix remix package and DJ Orgasmic’s ridiculously good Joe x Ludacris mash up. Gotta say, although that last track is brilliant, its fairly annoying that it got made as dropping How Low Can You Go and Party Ho Mo over UK bass tracks has been my party trick this year, whattabummer! New Always Everything comrade in arms Rory Gibb has been writing great stuff for the blog for the last year as well as…

Jimi The Exploder, né James Balf! Sonic Router’s final writer and badman DJ. James just uploaded a new mix hot on the tail of Blawan, and damn it’s a good’un. I’ve once made a muted reference to a godawful night I used to promote in my hometown and- this will be my second and last mention of it- on more than one occasion Jimi salvaged a degree of credibility for me, being the only man playing great music all night. And not just great music, amazing music on 100% well worn wax. Needless to say, he’s a don and this mix showcases just that, effortlessly moving through boogie tastic UK house mutations and other syncopated slammers.
